[…] On Display ist eine fotografische Recherche von Sigrid Kurz über europäische und amerikanische Ausstellungsinstitutionen für zeitgenössische Kunst. Wenn Sigrid Kurz in den seit 2005 entstandenen Fotografien den engeren Bereich der Institutionen und der physischen Gestalt ihrer Räume um die künstlerischen Werke und deren AutorInnen, die sie in den Ausstellungsräumen angetroffen hat, erweitert, verschärft sich damit ihr Interesse an den sozialen Beziehungen, an der Wechselwirkung zwischen Institution, Kunstwerk, Künstler und Publikum, bzw. deren Aktivitäten und Produktionen: Portraits von Martha Rosler, Beatrice Colomina, Victor Burgin oder David Lamelas tauchen wie Symbole auf, stehen für ihre eigenen Werke, aber auch stellvertretend für künstlerische Tendenzen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Wohin verschiebt sich die Repräsentation? Vom architektonischen zum sozialen Raum. Sigrid Kurz’ Fotografien erkunden und eröffnen uns die beschriebenen Kontexte, sind wie Studien über diese Kontexte und gleichzeitig in ihnen verankert. […]

[…] On Display, the title of a photographic study by Sigrid Kurz who introduces us to European and American institutions for the exhibition of contemporary art. In the photographs that Kurz has created since 2005, she has expanded the spectrum of institutions and the physical form of their spaces with artistic works and their authors whom she met in exhibition spaces and venues. She thus reinforces her interest in social relationships, the interplay of institution, artwork, artist, and audience or their activities and productions: portraits of Martha Rosler, Beatrice Colomina, Victor Burgin, and David Lamelas appear as symbols representative of her own works, but are also symbolic for artistic tendencies of the twentieth century. So where does representation shift to? From architectural to social space. Sigrid Kurz’s photographs explore and provide us with access to the described contexts. They are like studies of these contexts and at the same time, are anchored in them. […]
